" I moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 2001 and at the beginning of summer 2002 I started looking for cars. I saw the ad for a car in the south end of Calgary (a block from where Pete lives). I drove down to see it and turned the corner to see the big red grill sticking out onto the street. It was love at first sight and the test drive sealed the deal.
On my way home with the car, the second time I'd driven it, I got stopped by the cops three blocks from my house. After convincing them it wasn't stolen (all the paperwork was in the other car) they escorted me home with strict instructions NOT to move it again until it was registered. (They could have taken my license, had me appear in court and pay a $2500 fine.)
The car has a 400 V8 with custom exhaust, after-market sunroof, bucket seats and an automatic transmission. I bought the car in July 2002 and haven't done anything major to it since. It needed a new horn relay switch and a new section of tailpipe to pass safety. Even in the coldest weather in Calgary so far (-20) the car has started and run really well. (The summer tires aren't great on ice though.)
In the next year or two I plan to have the rear quarter panels replaced (where it's starting to bubble through), add a new stereo (the Alpine from 1984 just doesn't cut it), and have the exhaust redone (she's got different tips on each side right now.) It's also going to need a transmission - it's not slipping in drive but sometimes doesn't want to reverse. I can probably safely drive it until spring as-is.
The front seats will need to be redone but the back seat is mint. I don't have the mechanical facilities (or the know-how for much beyond oil-changes, etc.) so if any Calgary readers know of any reputable mechanics, exhaust experts, body shops etc. please drop me an e-mail and let me know!!
